The Aware Project

My work in youth mental health means that I need good people engaged in our work, who are sensitive to the needs of the young people I support. In June 2023 we held the first ever Victorian LGBTIQA+ Regional/Rural Youth Forum in Naarm (Melbourne). We had over 100 young people, carers, support workers, community and organisations take part. The most important thing was for us to capture the voices of the young people.

I engaged Marty to help us offer the young people and their supporters a record of the event, as well as their voices and contributions.

The graphic that Marty captured has contributed to a report for organisations, government and the young people themselves to use for advocacy, support and change projects. One young person has taken this graphic and used it to advocate for a social group including funding in their rural town. This has not only offered them support but has built a connection for others in this isolated town. The young people said “I love this”, “this really shows what we were talking about”.

Marty did an amazing job capturing our Victorian LGBTIQA+ Regional/Rural Youth Forum event. His work has given us a great visual that we can now use to demonstrate the feeling of the day's discussions & areas for improvement. A fantastic contribution to the day & for communication moving forward. Thank you Marty for understanding what we needed, being an inclusive and welcoming part of the event, and for the visual that captured the day so perfectly.

Marty's talent for graphic recording and illustration brought fun, creativity and clarity to our team building event. He created a series of posters, representing each of our business regions. Now, thanks to Marty's imaginative artwork, we not only have fond memories of the event but also a valuable collection of visuals to engage with going forward.

Marty has illustrated a number of our online webinars. We found Marty really easy to work with, and he always created a product that was perfectly tailored to suit our requirements. 

Marty’s sketches were just what we need to convey information (that would otherwise be quite technical and dry) in an interesting and engaging way. His sketches also provided us with an avenue to hold the attention of visual learners. 

We have received lots of positive feedback on Marty’s illustrations and we would not hesitate to work with him on future projects.
